Priyankar Patra is a writer and filmmaker from Calcutta, India. He's currently Kolkata based.
Growing up in a culturally charged environment, Priyankar spent a lot of time watching movies and listening to folktales. But it was The Dark Knight which made him go, "okay, we gotta make movies now". Since then, he has never given up or doubted this passion.
He started taking screenwriting seriously when he was a journalist, working for The Telegraph, in Kolkata and found himself somehow hanging out on film sets. That prompted him to hone his skills by applying to Northwestern's MFA Writing program. Last year he was selected as a Television Academy intern where he worked for The Wolper Organization based at Warner Bros.
His one-act play, One Ticket to America, has been produced by Chicago based theatre company, Nothing Without A Company, for their annual play festival in October 2018.
When you meet him, he will not stop talking about how much he loves LA and addressing himself in third person! Priyankar is a lover of chocolate croissants and is infamous for not liking fruits.
He's currently working on a self-financed documentary with Sandeep Reddy Pamulapati and Aalisha Sheth on international students in the USA. Additionally, he's working as the Chief Assistant Director for award winning Indian filmmaker, Aditya Vikram Sengupta's third feature film.
